The 2023 Hurley Weekend marking the anniversary of the death of the late Archbishop in 2004 which is commemorated every year with the DHC AGM and topical events at the DHC, and special services at Emmanuel Cathedral. The weekend opens with a Saturday afternoon music recital – on Saturday February 11 at 14h00 in the Cathedral: an exceptional musical event has been created with organist, AJ Bethke playing the recently restored organ accompanying opera singer, Nozuko Teto.

Dr Anthony-John Bethke is a music lecturer in UKZN School of Arts and he is the Director of Music at St Cyprian’s Anglican Church. He regularly gives recitals – most recently he presented a year-end Organ Concert in December last year in aid of Kerr House. He also regularly presented the Friends of Music pre-concert lectures prior to KZN Philharmonic World Symphony Season Concerts.

Nozuko Teto hails from a small town in the Eastern Cape. After a highly successful career singing in international opera theatres, she has returned to her homeland to wow local audiences with her sensational soprano voice. Most recently she was a soloist in a concert of light classical and Christmas music, Joy to the World at the Durban Jewish Centre last December. She made an impromptu appearance delighting everyone when she sang at the DHC Meal of Reconciliation in December.

No admission will be charged but a collection will be taken towards the Cathedral's fundraising project.

Emmanuel Cathedral is situated at 48 Cathedral Road, Durban Central, Durban. For more information contact 031 306 3596.
