CONCEPT TO SCREEN PROGRAMME COMMENCES

Every year the Ethekwini Filmmakers Association runs the Script to Screen filmmaking skills programme empowering filmmakers in all the aspects of making films like concept development, screenwriting, and producing. The programme helps everyone who wants to develop as an actor or writer or producers or director enabling participants to be either self- employed or employable with the film industry. The programme helps connect aspiring talent with established filmmakers who facilitate the workshops.

The Script to Screen programme has introduced a few faces to film and television, groomed crew members who work for well-known local productions.

“Filmmaking is serious business. The South African gig economy is made up of so many film-makers who work as independent freelancers in different projects. The film industry creates many jobs, and it is important that the filmmakers in Durban are empowered through correct knowledge, and they are enabled to become leaders in this sector.

“Our experience as Ethekwini Filmmakers Association has proven that it is possible. Our participants have movies licensed to local channels; some are breaking new ground where they have their films distributed beyond South African borders. There is growth and a hope for sustainable business” says the Ethekwini Filmmakers Association’s Chairperson Andile Buwa.

‘Everyone who can read and write, even if they do not have Matric can join the workshops. The workshops are free for participants. We also welcome film graduates as networking through these sessions leads to opportunities for in-the-job training or hands-on experience which is an important part of their learning as well."

This Saturday, March 11, 2023, the workshop will be at the KZN Film Commission’s premises in Musgrave Centre, 11th floor from 09h00.
