EFA wishes to engage Film makers who want to produce and learn film industry skills from concept development, scriptwriting, and film production. Our workshop will focus on Acting for Television:

Our facilitator is Menzi Mkhwane. Menzi Mkhwane started off his journey as an actor at DUT where he began his formal training. It was here that during his first year of study as an actor began; where he won a number of awards such as Best New Comer, Best Supporting Actor and Creative Performer Award. In the second and third year he went on to win awards such as Most Versatile Performer and Best Actor.

He also performed a two-hander with his father Bheki Mkhwane titled Belly of the Beast which premiered at the Playhouse Loft theatre. This production was directed by German based director and writer Rob Klarman.

Following this experience, he worked on his own play alongside Sabelo Ndlovu titled Pockets of Knowledge in 2011 which was nominated for Best New South African Script at the Durban Mercury Theatre Awards. In (2013) he was cast as V12 a supporting character in Zabalaza the first South African lokshin soap produced by Mnet’s Mzansi Magic.

In 2014, he was also cast in a role as a young comrade in Bheki Mkhwane’s Have We Been Heard staged at the ICC as part of the 20-year celebration of our freedom and democracy. In (2014) he wrote and performed his own one-man show entitled Last Cow Standing; which premiered at the Catalina Theatre in Durban; and was nominated for Best New South African Script, Best Solo performance in the Durban Mercury Theatre Awards. The script went on to win a writing award at the Imbewu script readings which took place at the first Cape-town fringe in Cape-town. The list is endless since Menzi also runs his own theatre company and trains other actors and develops his own productions independently.
