Isolation will be screened in the media gallery at KZNSA from August 1 until September 12, 2023. Members of the public are invited to witness the performance on August 9, 2023.

To celebrate Women’s Month, the KZNSA is delighted to host a two-hour performance by a female artist, Selloane Moeti, inspired by the health-preservation techniques people used during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.

Moeti studied the mummification process to examine how people preserved themselves during the lockdown. She places herself inside a glass house while meditatively covering her body in bandages dipped in ibomvu (red clay), used in Zulu tradition for purification and spiritual healing. The process leaves Moeti feeling restricted, fragile, and frightened, reflecting the current struggle to preserve health within tight spaces.

Isolation will be screened in the media gallery at KZNSA from August 1 until September 12, 2023. Members of the public are invited to witness the performance on August 9, 2023, from 10h30 to 13h00.

Since the performance will be recorded, attendees are encouraged to wear all-black attire and remove their shoes at the entrance of the media gallery. There are a limited number of spots available.

Interested members are invited to RSVP by August 5, 2023, at online@kznsagallery.co.za.
