KZNPO SPRING SEASON – A SPECIAL OCCASION

(Right: Bongani Tembe, KZNPO CEO and Artistic Director)

Bongani Tembe, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the KZNPO announces that “Our World Symphony Series 2023 Spring Season is a very special occasion indeed, as we’re celebrating our 40th Anniversary!”

“Our opening night commemorates this milestone, and features compositions from one of South Africa’s most phenomenally gifted musicians, Shalati Joseph Khosa, who was known as the Musical Prodigy of Africa. Extracts from his moving song collection, which includes Mintirho ya vulavula (Deeds speak) kicks off the evening's musical offerings, under the baton of Justus Frantz.

“Thereafter, we present a duo of crowd-pleasing staples that will make your spirits soar, including Rachmaninoff’s iconic Piano Concerto No. 2, to be performed by extraordinary Ukraine-American pianist Valentina Lisitsa, as we celebrate the composer’s 150th birth anniversary. With Justus Frantz on the podium, Dvořák’s New World Symphony brings the evening to a close.

“The rest of the four-concert season will see a cavalcade of luminaries in our guest slots, including the conductors Irene Delgado-Jiménez (a protégée of Marin Alsop), Daniel Boico, and Robert Moody.

“Our solo spots will showcase the superbly gifted violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, and the dazzling skills of Russian virtuoso Nikita Mndoyants and Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng. Each will bring to life the concert stalwarts you’ll see detailed in the notes within our e-brochure - available for download here.

“We encourage you to secure your Season Tickets by contacting info@kznphil.org.za or 031 369 9438. Single tickets are available for purchase through us and through Quicket.”
