Durban was on a
winning streak this past week and weekend, as the city enjoyed nine gloriously
sunny days of the 2024 East Coast Radio House + Garden Show!
Sensational show stands deservedly bagged Top Stand awards, over-the-moon winners won BIG in the multiple mega competitions, and, as always, the REAL winners were the thousands upon thousands of Show visitors, who discovered a fresh selection of stand-holders, revisited old favourites, capitalised on the Show Specials, and enjoyed a wide range of prizewinning family entertainment.
With Plascon as sponsor, and destination partner Durban Tourism, all the colourful tools to Create a Happy Home were gathered together in Durban, in one place, at one time. This year’s Show boasted over R350,000 worth of sizzling hot prizes! The game was on, as visitors embraced the chance to fly far away, take a cruise, start a business, swop out all their old appliances for new, or win a large fistful of cash! Aired live on the Show’s closing Sunday on East Coast Radio by Show Director Cairey Baxter-Bruce, the excitement rocketed as the competition winner’s names were announced.
One Stop Travel had pushed out the boat with an MSC Cruise for two on MSC Musica, a pair of rugby tickets for the upcoming Irelands vs South Africa game on Saturday, and two air tickets on Qatar Airlines with a four-night stay in Doha. All it took to be in it to win it, was a scan of your phone. One lucky fan walked away with R10,000 from Plascon in their fun-filled digital Treasure Hunt, while online fans chose the creative winner of Cricut’s ‘Design a Bag’ competition, and the lucky recipient walked away with R100,000 in product! And, of course, the (nearly) elephant in the room, was the giant Hirsch’s Mystery Blue Box. Daily streams of visitors peered into the massive box to guess the value of its contents, popped their entry into the competition box… and it was a very delighted Tinus Botha who guessed the figure closest to the value of the appliances!
The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show 2024 drew to a close this past Sunday, with, says Baxter-Bruce, over 63,000 visitors having attended this highlight on the city’s calendar, and providing its annual economic and tourism boost to the city of Durban. “As organisers, we’re committed to supporting local, so we’re particularly thrilled with the high level of interest shown to Durban’s homegrown designers, decorators, artisanal eateries and entrepreneurs. This city is chockfull of talent, and we’re proud to provide a platform for it.”
