The award-winning smash hit - The Glitter Girls are set to shine at Talloula on Wednesday August 28, 2024!
Three of Durban’s most loved and versatile performers - Lisa Bobbert, Liesl Coppin and Marion Loudon - make up the formidable femme de force known as The Glitter Girls. The talented trio not only light up the stage, but also have the audience eating out of the palms of their manicured hands. All three are natural comics who keep the audience in stitches with their irrepressible performances.
Remember Pac-man? Spandex? Dallas? The trend- busting Glitter Girls go back to 1989, neon, big hair … and back to school.
The show hinges around the 35th anniversary reunion of ‘Skolliesville’ High School’s Class of 1989. The comedy entertainment includes songs from the 80s, right up to today, with hits from Bananarama, Eurythmics, Cindy Lauper, Madonna and Abba. Witness the Glitter Girls re-living their greatest triumphs, trials and heartbreaks in this comic caper, which won the 2014 Mercury Durban Theatre Award for Best Musical Review, and also a Best Actress in a Musical Review Award for Liesl Coppin.
A highlight of the show is when the ‘Girls’ gender-bend into their alter-egos – Kenny de la Mer, Ruben Lipshitz and John Grey. These ‘dudes’ are underscored by the unmistakable backbeat of Duran Duran, Rick Ashley and Bruno Mars, to name a few.
Bobbert, Coppin and Loudon, all three previous recipients of the coveted Mercury Durban Theatre Personality of the Year Award, are absolute charmers, and one doesn't have to be an Eighties child to enjoy this light hearted and highly entertaining musical comedy.
The show is set to start at 19h00 on Wednesday, August 28. Doors open at 18h00.
Patrons are welcome to bring picnic baskets or order food beforehand. No drinks allowed – a cash bar is available.
The duration of the show (excluding a 20-minute interval) is 70 minutes.
