The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is thrilled to announce the return of acclaimed USA pianist, arranger, educator, vocalist, and scholar, Dr JP McGee, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 17h30.

Dr JP returns to South Africa for both research and performance. He first graced our stage in February 2024, captivating a sold-out audience in Durban.

His ground-breaking dissertation, A Sound for Distressed Souls: Gospejazzical as an NTU Approach for Coping with the Vocational Stressors of the Black Pastor, explores the healing potential of his innovative genre, Gospejazzical.

This unique sound merges Gospel, Jazz, and Classical music to create a powerful fusion that entertains, uplifts, and inspires. Youtube link:  John Paul McGee Trio - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
