ETHEKWINI TRIO: PLAYING PIANO TRIOS

Friends of Music will present the eThekwini Trio playing Piano Trios.

 Three of Durban’s leading musicians, Andrew Warburton (piano), Evgeny Zhadanov (violin) and Ayanda Makulwana (cello) are together to play Beethoven, Brahms and the highly moving “Elegiac” Trio No.1 by Rachmaninov.

 Andrew Warburton is one of the leading pianists in South Africa. He has performed concertos with all the country's orchestras since 1982 and has partnered many eminent soloists from abroad in recital. 

Andrew is presently Lecturer in Piano, Director of the Opera School and Choral Academy, and head of Western Classical Performance Studies at the UKZN School of Music. He recently graduated with a PhD in piano performance.

 Evgeny Zhadanov was born in Moscow in 1976 and graduated from the Moscow State Conservatoire in 2001.

He has worked with orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. 

He was appointed Associate Concertmaster of the KZNPO earlier this year.

 

Ayanda Makulwana was born in Davytown. Johannesburg. His musical journey started with the clarinet and saxophone before moving to classical music and the cello. He has honed his skills with the Johannesburg Philharmonic (Academy) and the National Youth Orchestra. He is currently with the KZNPO.

The concert takes place on November 17 at 14h30 at the Durban Jewish Centre.
