Reddam House Umhlanga and Waterfall shine at Drakensberg’s Music in the Mountains Festival
Two Reddam House schools recently demonstrated their choral excellence at one of South Africa’s most esteemed cultural showcases – the Drakensberg Boys Choir’s Music in the Mountains Festival – hosted on the school’s picturesque campus in the heart of the Drakensberg.
Invitations to perform at this prestigious event are typically extended only to top-tier ensembles, making the inclusion of both Reddam House Umhlanga and Reddam House Waterfall a significant honour.
For Reddam House Umhlanga, the invitation marked a continuation of an already growing relationship with the renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir School (DBCS), following earlier collaborations. Celebrated for their uniquely South African flair, musical discipline, and captivating stage presence, the Umhlanga choir earned high praise from both DBCS members and appreciative audiences.
Shelley Peringuey, College Head at Reddam House Umhlanga, shared: “Being invited to share a stage with one of the most respected choirs in the country is such a privilege. The warm welcome our choir received from so many of the DBCS boys made it feel almost like a homecoming.”
Russell Scott, Reddam’s Director of Culture, added, “Reddam House Umhlanga has become the school of choice for many Drakensberg Boys Choir graduates, and we are proud to provide an environment where their musical passions continue to flourish.”

Their performance – set against the dramatic backdrop of the Cathkin Valley at sunset – became a breathtaking moment of harmony and natural beauty, complete with a rainbow that appeared just as the choir began to sing.
Their well-received programme included What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish (arranged by Andy Beck), Cover Me in Sunshine by P!nk, and the exuberant Dance! by Robert T Gibson.
The students delivered what many described as their most focused and flawless performance to date, earning a standing ovation from an appreciative audience. Supportive parents who travelled to witness the event played an integral role in the memorable experience.
Participation in this nationally respected festival highlights the Inspired Education Group’s continued commitment to artistic excellence and the nurturing of creativity in every student.
Ravi Nadasen, CEO of Inspired Education Group Africa & Middle East, said: “This experience was about more than just performance – it was about connection, inspiration, and pride. We are immensely proud of our students at Reddam House Umhlanga and Waterfall, and grateful to the Drakensberg Boys Choir School for the opportunity to be part of something so special.”
Both schools reflect a deep commitment to the performing arts, which continue to be a cornerstone of their educational philosophy. Experiences like these not only showcase the exceptional talent within the Reddam House community but also reinforce the value of music as a powerful tool for connection, confidence and cultural exchange.
