The mighty KZN Philharmonic and the Durban City Orchestra join forces for a joyous Christmas sundowner concert featuring a beautiful range of festive tunes and singalong carols at St Agnes, Kloof on Sunday December 7 at 17h30.
The concert will be under the combined batons of Charl van der Merwe (resident conductor of DCO) and Chad Hendricks (resident conductor of KZN Phil). There will be special guests and soloists.
Chad Hendricks says: “We are just so excited for both orchestras to be working together and sitting side by side. This is a real rarity and a great opportunity for the audience to enjoy a fabulous, powerful full orchestral music Christmas concert; as well as great for members from both orchestras to get to know each other better and to perform together. We sometimes forget what amazing fine music resources Durban has on offer. This concert is a great way to end the year. Everybody involved is really excited.”
The carefully-curated festive programme combines well-known Christmas carols such as Silent Night, Joy to the World and Hark the Herald Angels, with fun festive cheer such as Jingle Bells Rock, All I Want for Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Leroy Anderson’s Christmas Festival and Winter Wonderland; and some really awesome large orchestral pieces such as Von Suppe Light Cavalry, Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite, Sibelius Finlandia and the evocative Highlands Cathedral featuring a bagpipe solo.
The teams from both orchestras have planned for this concert to be especially memorable and a fully festive experience.
