Living legend of rare distinction and exceptional staying power at Catalina from September 24 to 26
Catch music legend Brian Finch in action live at Durban’s Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf as part of the 2008 Durban International Blues and Jazz Heritage Festival until September 26 at 20h00.
A living legend of rare distinction and exceptional staying power, Brian Finch has been going strong for three decades and more!! His recording career took off big time in 1974 when his now legendary album, Bringing Back The Good Times hit the shelves, soon to be rated one of the top ten best albums ever produced in this country.
Over the years, Brian worked closely with the late Ken E. Henson and did not produce another solo album till 2002's Hero Of Heroes. Catching up since then, Eden, the most recent of his ten albums to date, was produced by Mutt Lange, Shania Twain’s ex-husband.
Brian grew up in Durban but headed for Johannesburg in 1973 to pursue a career in the fast lane. The rest is history. With acoustic guitar and harmonica as his instruments, and as a singer, he has left an indelible impression in music circles, carving a special niche for himself as a self-styled ‘country rock blues’ practitioner. His South African festival appearances have included all the major events on our national circuit, both as a solo artist, and in company with other luminaries like Dan Chiorboli, Wayn Coughman, and the like. Brian’s special status on this year’s Durban International Blues and Jazz Heritage Music Festival roster is underscored by his solo concert at the Catalina Theatre on 23 September.
