The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates 25 years of music excellence.
The 25th Anniversary celebrations of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra reach a highpoint on October 23 with a gala concert at Durban City Hall.
A host of acclaimed artists, under the baton of eminent African-American conductor Dr Leslie Dunner, perform Beethoven’s masterful Ninth Symphony. A powerful and deeply engaging work, which has marked many auspicious occasions including the openings of the Olympic Games and the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is a fitting tribute to the 25 years of music excellence that Africa’s premier orchestra, the KZNPO, celebrates in 2008.
The impressive line-up of performers includes soprano Hanli Stapela, mezzo-soprano Violina Anguelov, tenor Musa Nkuna and baritone Fikile Mvinjelwa. Joining them on stage are the award-winning Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, Durban Chamber Choir and Clermont Community Choir.
Bongani Tembe, Chief Executive & Artistic Director of the KZN Philharmonic, says, “For everyone at the KZNPO, this concert will be a tremendously proud moment as we celebrate our 25th anniversary. With a commitment to contributing meaningfully to the lives of all South Africans, this Orchestra has a rich legacy of bringing hope and joy through music to countless audiences, as well as nurturing the talents of tomorrow’s stars. While we have accomplished so much, there are new generations to be entertained, educated and enriched, and the KZNPO will continue to strive for new heights.”
Following the concert, patrons are invited to continue the festivities with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and delicious Belgian chocolates, while Music Unlimited provides the perfect celebratory music for the occasion on the steps of the Durban City Hall. Tickets ranging from R60 to R173 booked through Computicket. Further information from the KZNPO on 031 369 9438 or click on the KZNPO banner ad to visit their website
