A SONG FOR YOU

Belinda Dolphin and Karen Campbell-Gillies offer Tribute to the Carpenters at Rhumbelow.

Next up at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo, Belinda Dolphin and Karen Campbell-Gillies present a tribute to the Carpenters with A Song for You.

The show is a nostalgic look at the beautiful music of the Carpenters. Music from a time when we could hum to “every sha lalala” and “whoa”, and the lyrics reflected romance, heartbreak and love. It’s a toe- tapping, heart warming evening of favourites from the extremely talented Carpenters duo whose music career spanned from 1969 thro to Karen Carpenter’s tragic death in 1983. Their music forever changed the face of recorded music by featuring complex and skilful use of melody and harmony, carried by heart rending and poignant lyrics.

Both Belinda and Karen are well-known to Durban audiences - Karen has appeared in numerous adult pantomimes, most recently Snow White at the Catalina, as well as a one woman show (Storm in a D-Cup) and various cabarets staged at the Rhumbelow and the Hilton Festival with Anthony Stonier.

Belinda is renowned for her compelling singing voice, and appearances at numerous venues around Durban including The Stables Lifestyle market, The Lounge and Gateway. She was also recently featured on the Rhumbelow stage in The Very Weathered Girls, and performs regularly with the all-girl group Centrefold.

Songs featured in the show will include Top of the World, Close to You, Mr Postman, A Song for You, Rainy Days and Mondays, Sing and many more.

Shows take place on October 24 and 25 at 20h00 and on October 26 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R70. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
