THE SINGING CHAMELEON

Gcina Mhlope tells this fascinating tale amid Kalle Becker’s original artworks from the book.

The Durban Art Gallery is putting on a special event for children and all who are young at heart.

The Singing Chameleon is an exhibition of original artworks from the book of the same name by Gcina Mhlope. The story is an inspirational and compelling retelling of a Malawian tale with bright and bold illustrations by the artist Kalle Becker.

Born in 1964 in Goettingen, Germany, Becker is married to Gcina Mhlope. He studied graphics, filmmaking, photography and Russian in Germany and the Ukraine. As a filmmaker and actor, he worked in Germany, Russia, Georgia and South Africa. He is also a freelance artist and illustrator of children's books.

Gcina Mhlope is one of South Africa's most famous figures – world renowned for her storytelling which captivates young and old. She will be telling the story of The Singing Chameleon on December 13, 18 and 23 at 12h00. The exhibition is on view daily until January 1. Entrance is free and all are welcome.
