Stable Theatre hosts first major event of the year with open-air dance programme on Valentine’s Day.
The Stable Theatre at 115 Johannes Nkosi Street (formerly Alice Street) is now under new management. The centre has had a face-lift in terms of general upkeep and control as well as repairs to seating and ablution facilities.
The first major event of the year will be an open-air afternoon and evening of dance titled “Dancing with the Stars Under the Bridge” which will take place at the back of the complex on Valentine’s Day (February 14). The Stable Theatre hosts regular ballroom dance sessions during the week in this area under the railway bridge.
Organised by well-known Durban Diva, Pinkie Mtshali, Dancing with the Stars Under the Bridge will be presented in two sessions, hosted by DJ Aeroplane from Durban Youth Radio.
The first will be held from 12h00 to 16h00 and will feature Pansula, Hip Hop, Indlamu and Gumboot as well as Kwasa Kwasa and Kenyan dancers. There will also be performances by Indian and Portuguese dancers with an added attraction being Zulu dance and Break Dancing. Entrance R10 pp at the door.
The second session from 19h00 to 24h00 highlights the beauty, sophistry, elegance and artistry that is intrinsic in all forms of dance and offers Ballroom and Latin American as well as Belly Dancers.
Emphasis will be on involving young performers and audiences and highlighting forms of dance that are contemporary, cultural and current.
