MAISHA & HABIT TO

(Pic:Maisha)

Maisha and Habit To for Lavender Blue on February 14.

Hot world band Maisha, which means “Life“ in Swahili is a new seven-piece band that plays easy listening, soulful and meaningful music from the heart of Africa. The songs reflect the life and times of modern Africa, with messages of hope, peace and love for all.

The heart of the band comes from Tresor Riziky a newly acquired talent to South Africa who hails from the Congo and who provides the backbone, lyrics and sweet voice of Maisha. Tresor joined Rod Nichols (Face Studios) along with Khulekani Zondi (keyboards, backing vocals, song writer). On drums is Simon (the gentleman gypsy), who provides a solid rhythm. The final members are Bongani Maduna with loads of experience and talent who plays bass, guitar and backing vocals, Trinity Silk on trumpet and Jon from the African Drum Shack on percussion.

They will perform on February 14 with Habit To at Lavender Blue in Botha’s Hill. Maisha will also be the opening act for Eddie Grant on February 22.

In Habit To, three musos from Durban come together in one harmonious blend of rock / jazz / classical / pop. This recipe cooks up mouth-watering vocals and guitar solo’s from Michelle “Chillie” Stent, the leading lady. Dale “Dang” Wardell exists as the backbone and chief of the kit, delivering the beats for an army to march to. Not forgetting the foundation laid down by Andy Stent who uses his bass to bring the trio down to earth and then dishes up the full course meal of musical madness.

Having studied music at tertiary level, Chillie and Dang synchronise a thought process that digs deeper than the basics of song writing. These ideals are further reinforced, and the music visually complimented, by projected video images displayed during the band’s live performances. This is owed to Andy’s qualifications in Fine art and Animation. With the help of Richard “Dickie-B” Burgess who works behind the scenes, Habit To encapsulates an audio visual experience.

Since 2000, this family of two siblings and co have toured South Africa and continue to toi-toi for the rights of true music. Their engagement into meaning is equally balanced with accessibility providing enough for kids of all ages.

Maisha and Habit To can be seen at 17h00 on February 14 at Lavender Blue, Botha’s Hill. Entrance R90. More information on 072 280 1949 or visit www.lunalounge.co.za
