OLD MUTUAL MUSIC AT THE LAKE
(Pic: Watershed)
Old Mutual takes over as sponsor of Durban Botanic Gardens popular concerts.
Starting in February 2009, Old Mutual will present monthly Music at the Lake concerts in the Durban Botanic Gardens.
Music at the Lake is the latest addition to the Old Mutual family concert series. The concerts feature the cream of South African and international talent. As with music concerts at other botanic gardens in South Africa, the event offers a fantastic outing for the whole family in great surroundings.
At the recent media launch, Old Mutual (SA) Brand Expression Manager Joy Khaole indicated her company’s pride in being involved with the Durban Botanic Gardens. The Music at the Lake partnership is a three-year deal which will present 12 concerts a year.
One of the best ways to make Valentine’s Day special is to celebrate it in the glorious surroundings of the Durban Botanic Gardens under a – hopefully! – clear night sky on February 14 at 19h00. Pack a picnic of special goodies, a bottle or two of fine wine, something to sit on, lock into your romantic side and enjoy the music of Watershed.
Led by talented singer and songwriter, Craig Hinds, Watershed is a class act with their polished performance – making them one of South Africa’s most popular and highly acclaimed award-winning bands.
“Since the time they dared to step onto the front porch of the pantheon of popular music in 2000 in an attempt to follow in the footsteps of fame, Watershed have revealed themselves to be an outfit who can produce songs that are instantly recognizable and yet utterly unique,” reads their promotional material. “The fact that they are South African is a source of pride to their huge local fan base, but totally beside the point. Their musical language is wonderfully universal – a fact that their latest release, Staring at the Ceiling, will definitely underscore. They’ve arrived; they have been granted citizenship of our musical world. And they are first class citizens.”
Watershed performed at Nelson Mandela’s inaugural 46664 concert in Cape Town in 2003, with a stadium crowd of over 40,000 and a world-wide television and web cast audience of millions. Their top class performance alongside the likes of Queen, Bono, BeyoncĂ©, Annie Lennox and The Corrs, elevated the group to international status.
Tickets R100 (R50 children 6 to 12). Early booking is advised through Computicket on 083 915 8000 or through MTN and Checkers outlets.
Gates to the concert area will open at 17h00 and patrons are asked to vacate the gardens by 22h00 after the Valentine’s Day concert. Secure parking is available on the Juventus soccer field off lower St Thomas Road and the Munies Sports field off lower Sydenham Road. Disabled parking bays are available at the Visitors Complex.
In order to make the Durban Botanic Gardens a safer venue for all, the St Thomas Road gate is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, contact the Office of the Friends - 031-2025819 (o/h) or our Info Centre on 3091170 (weekends)
