SPONSORED TRAINING ON WEB-DESIGN

Minimum number of places available in sponsored course.

Following the Forum discussions at the Musho! Festival held in Durban, one of the issues mentioned was the use of technology in marketing – in particular, the Web.

Department of Arts, Culture & Tourism’s Eben Otto has been in discussion with a computer-based training company, NETLEARN in Durban North during the past month. They have agreed to offer sponsored training on Web-design for four people.

This is an internationally recognized course (ICDL – Web design) and although the course will be free (worth approximately R5,000) the course attendees might have to pay a nominal fee for the course material if they want to keep it. They will also have the option to write the examination at a later stage if they wish to obtain the qualification certificate, and there will be a nominal charge for that – between R300 and R500 (this is optional).

The dates for the course are on February 28 and March 7 from 09h00 to 16h00. There will be no catering and attendees should take their own lunch packs.

Those who are interested must be computer literate and have a basic understanding of the web and must e-mail their details to Eben Otto at OttoE@dact.kzntl.gov.za

He will notify the first four candidates who e-mail him the exact address details (it is just off North Coast Road in Durban North) of where the course will take place. If there are more than four candidates, he will keep the names in order of notification on a waiting list should the course be repeated or if any of the other candidates cancel.

Further to that, Eben Otto is also in discussion with T-Bone Hlahane (www.theatresa.co.za) and Jerry Pooe of the Department working on a more informal course in the new financial year on how to utilize the web, e-mail, My Space and other tools as marketing tools for artists. Those interested in this course, should notify Eben Otto on email: ebeno@polka.co.za, clearly marking your communication “2nd Course only”.
