MUSIC THERAPY AT AQUAM

Music therapy introduced to San Aquam by yoga and music therapist, Trusha Lakani.

According to Ayurveda, a person’s body knows what is good and bad for it. Exponents believe that once they begin to notice and obey their own instincts, people will find that their physiology is capable of achieving balance on its own with minimal effort on their part.

San Aquam, Africa’s only Ayurvedic Spa, offers to help clients achieve a life balanced through a combination of ancient wisdom, modern medical science and therapies. Ayurveda comes from two Sanskrit words meaning ‘life’ and ‘knowledge’ or ‘science.’ The guiding principle of Ayurveda is that the mind exerts the deepest influence on the body. Freedom from disease depends on connecting with your awareness.

The latest addition to the five star San Aquam Urban Sanctuary in Kensington Boulevard, Durban North, is the introduction of music therapy both designed to assist in achieving and maintaining balance. This has been introduced by yoga and music therapist, Trusha Lakani.

She explains; “Music is used to help all living creatures – from plants to birds, animals and man – to grow and rejuvenate. In fact, music permeates the cells of all living beings, alters mood swings and cell division, heals the ailing, induces sleep, creates wakefulness and dances with the mind and soul. It is the key to ultimate balance.”

San Aquam’s music therapy is presented through balanced acoustic manipulation for ultimate relaxation and enjoyment. It is an interpersonal process where the trained therapist uses music and all its facets to improve and maintain personal physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic and spiritual wellbeing and health.

Man has long valued music for its ability to calm, cajole and rejuvenate. At SanAquam, science has been used to understand and study the healing effects of music in methodology and this has been translated into a therapy that can be experienced in a class or one on one session.

Another new asset is the opening of DOSHAS health café which has been designed by the Spa’s Ayurvedic physicians, Dr Rajen Cooppan and Dr Sajith Varma. They represent San Aquam’s partners at the Nagarjuna Ayurvedic Group in Karala, India.
