ALL EYES IN AFRICAN
(Pic: Mbhekeni Mbili: Untitled - Acrylic on canvas)
All Eyes in African is an exhibition of new work by Mbhekeni Mbili which is running at the KZN Gallery in Glenwood.
Mbhekeni Mbili was born in 1975 in Umlazi Township close to Durban. In 2005 he participated in a one-year art programme at the Bat Centre. In 2006 he entered the Absa L’atelier competition, where his work was sent to Johannesburg and sold. In 2007 he was a finalist in the Nivea Start Art Award where his work was sold. In 2008 he had a near sold-out show at KZNSA titled Soccer Vibe.
His new exhibition All Eyes In African is a mosaic on the theme of the 2010 soccer world cup. It will not focus solely about the sport itself, but also on the lifestyle of South Africans, life in the township, about where our society will be at that time, and where we are going in the future.
All Eyes In African runs until April 19 at the KZNSA Gallery which is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, in Durban. More information on 031 277 1703, fax 031 201 8051 or cell 082 220 0368 or visit www.kznsagallery.co.za
