THE BALD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
(Pic: Shelley McLean, Evan Roberts, Melanie Roberts and Liesl Coppin)
Evan Roberts joins up with his bevy of actress/singer "beauties for diverse bag of music.
After a long break from the stage, musical director, producer and pianist Evan Roberts will present The Bald and the Beautiful at Rhumbelow Theatre. Here he joins up with his bevy of actress/singer "beauties": Liesl Coppin (Memory of Water, Rock me Amadeus, Showgirls, Replay), Shelley McLean (Girls Behaving Badly, Cinderella, Viva Las Vegas) and well-known cabaret singer Melanie Roberts who has recently returned from The Middle East.
In their inimitable piano and voice style, with their own arrangements, they will deliver a diverse bag of music. Between the four of them, they have done over 14 shows together, and Evan effortlessly attributes his "baldness " to working with the gals over the last 20 years!
Taking a wry look at life, their friendships, and their celebration of music, The Bald and the Beautiful travels time musically in a seamless blend of harmonies from Pussy Cat Dolls to Bob Dylan, Take That to Justin Timberland and more.
Also in the mix are Under Pressure from Queen, Too much Heaven from the Beegees; favourites such as Mr Bojangles and the newly popular Halleluja. Genres of music, from soul to blues, pop to rock, are covered, with a nod to country, Islands in the Stream, and a few special choices in between, from evergreen artists such as Elvis Presley, Bob Marley and Barbra Streisand.
Shows take place from April 17 to 19 and again from April 24 to 26 at 20h00 (Sundays at 18h30). The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.
Tickets R80. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
