FOREIGN ARTISTS RESIDENCY

Calling foreign artists and writers to Paris

The call for proposals for the residency programme at the Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges de Recollets for 2010 is accessible online until May 15.

Anxious to develop their international exchange and residency policy, the Département and Municipality of Paris launched in 2003 a residency programme for foreign artists at the Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges de Recollets, a prestigious establishment in the heart of Paris that, since its renovation in 2003, has become a facility for artists and researchers from around the world.

Around one hundred artists from over 80 countries have carried out residencies at the Couvent of the Recollets since the creation of the programme.

The international reputation of the programme acquired during the last five residency programmes and through the positive feedback of its beneficiaries, has prompted us to renew the main proposals of the programme.

As a result, this is a new call for proposals for residencies from January to December 2010.

The programme is aimed at professional writers and artists of all disciplines who will be selected by a jury – renewed every year – on the basis of a project they wish to develop in Paris during their residency. The project can be linked to an invitation received from a Parisian art institution, to a cultural co-operation programme or a personal research development work.

Successful candidates will stay in one of the six available studio-flats, put at their disposal by the municipality of Paris, of different sizes, varying from 50 m² to 85 m², for a period of three to six months. They will benefit from the financial support of the department, via Culturefrance, by receiving a monthly allowance of €1 500. The Department of Cultural Affairs of the municipality of Paris will assist successful candidates with their requests during their stay and will facilitate artists’ contacts with cultural institutions in Paris.

In order to facilitate the application as well as examination process, applications as well as pre-selection consultations will be performed online at the following address: www.international-recollets-paris.org

Via this channel, candidates will fill in an administration form (with automatic creation of application date and validation email) by attaching the necessary documentation (photos, recommendation letters) and will compile an artistic file (up to 5100 MB worth of photos, videos, audio extracts, scanned manuscripts, press reviews). It is also through this channel that, via a secured access, correspondents will undertake a pre-selection (with possibility of sorting out by alphabetical order, discipline or country) and that members of the jury will have the opportunity to consult pre-selected files in advance. During a jury session, these files will be presented in video-projection.

Once residencies have been attributed, the files of selected candidates will be made available to the public on the same site www.international-recollets-paris.org, offering, in French and English, a list of residents, an information page as well as an information letter.

The application period runs until May 15 2009. The jury will confer during September. Results will be transmitted directly to interested parties via e-mail within one month. The department will also inform the concerned diplomatic services.
