ROBERTA PIJPER BENEFIT CONCERT

Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park to host what promises to be one of the wildest music events of the year.

Durban musos are rocketing to the rescue for Durban music hero, Roberta Pijper. Described as a party animal, she is a staunch supporter of the Durban music scene, often playing Mom for many Durban bands, fetching, carrying and generally helping out great bands as Napalma and Maisha. She is most often found working for fun at the African Drumshack in Durban.

Just recently, Roberta has fallen ill and was admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of cancer... and the response from Durban has been phenomenal. On May 9, a massive number of big names will play a mini festival in honour of Roberta to raise funds for her hospital bills and her well-being - and of course, raise the energy to bring her to a speedy recovery!

This promises to be one of the wildest events of the year! Many big names have come forward and still many other bands are set to fill up the day completely! As all of this has been generated from a great love of a local music hero. All the bands and everyone involved in its production have asked that the public be extravagantly generous in their donation towards Roberta's health!

It is an indication of the esteem in which Roberta Pijper is held in the contemporary world that a concert of this magnitude has managed to appear spontaneously almost overnight with support from major role players in the Durban music industry.

On stage will be a line-up of no less than Napalma, Maisha, Habit To, Shomon, Avatar, T.H.O.T.S, Roly Struckmeyer & Dave McMillan, the Pixie Bennett Band, the Meditators, Fiona Tozer, Toi Toi Toy ...and still more to be confirmed! There will be much crazy drumming from the African Drumshack drummers as well as fire dancers, jugglers and hip hop dancers. Performers are invited to bring all their gear and join in!

There will also be raffles with great prizes, from Djembe drums, to CDs, toys and gig vouchers. Generous sponsors include East Coast Productions, Face Studios, Kablooey Studios and Luna Lounge.

The Roberta Pijper Benefit Concert will take place on May 9 from 11h30 to 23h30 at Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park, Mariannhill. Entrance fee is a very generous donation! Giba Gorge is a stunning venue with huge open spaces. Take bicycles, extra cash for the hat and lots of energy. This is clearly an event that will break all previous records.
