Eagerly-awaited annual open air concert at Durban Country Club on June7.
The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra proudly presents its eagerl-awaited Starlight Pop Opera concert, generously sponsored by First National Bank, at the scenic Durban Country Club on, June 7 2009.
A highlight on the South African arts and entertainment calendar, thousands of music lovers look forward the annual Starlight Pop Opera with keen anticipation. This year’s line-up of guest artists will perform under the baton of Richard Cock.
The soloist roster includes popular vocalists Tim Moloi, a longstanding favourite with Durban audiences, along with versatile performer Ramaine Barreiro, and the multi-award winning jazz saxophonist, Shannon Mowday. The evening’s operatic star couple are the distinguished Durban-born soprano, Bronwen Forbay, and respected lyric tenor, Nicholas Nicolaidis.

This year’s Starlight Pop Opera programme includes a generous mix of favourites, among others, well-loved classical highlights such as Quandro m’en vo (Musetta’s famous Waltz Song from Puccini’s La Bohème) and the tenor showstopper, Una furtiva lagrima from Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore; and operetta evergreens such as the dashing Overture and Adele’s lilting aria Mein Herr Marquis from Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. Also featured on the programme are smash hits such as That’s Amore, My Baby Just Cares for Me; A Whole New World, That’s All I Ask of You, African Eyes, Memory, New York New York, Goldfinger, African Medley and Simply the Best.
So pack a basket with delicious picnic fare, and plenty of bubbly, bring fold-up chairs and treat your family and friends to a memorable evening of luscious music-making under the stars.
The concert starts at 17h30 but the gates will be open at 14h30 and patrons are encouraged to arrive early to avoid the last-minute rush.

Tickets R100 (R50 children) will also be available at the gate on the day of the performance. First National Bank will donate a portion of every ticket sold to charity.
Free secure parking is available at the nearby ABSA Stadium. In the event of rain, the concert will take place on Monday June 8 at 18h00.
