Solo presentation of prints by Vulindlela Nyoni at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg.
Settling In is the title of a solo presentation of prints by Vulindlela Nyoni currently running . at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg.
Born in Chilimanzi, Zimbabwe, in 1976, Vulindlela Nyoni studied Fine Art at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg. He is now a printmaking lecturer at the UKZN Centre for Visual Arts on the same campus. His work represents his ‘journey’ to self discovery and shows the combined use of various media; Conte pastels and printmaking techniques: Silk-screening and Lino prints.
The identity search is about him finding ‘space’ that is comfortable for his existence as a person in this world. There are lot of symbols that suggest travel, such as travel bags and clouds as if seen from the window of an airplane and title in his work This way, That way. All the works are once-offs there are no editions.
Settling In runs at the Tatham Art Gallery until June 12. The gallery is situated in Chief Albert Luthuli Road opposite the Pietermaritzburg City Hall. More information on 033 392 2801.
