Currently running at the Innibos Festival in Nelspruit, the spectacular musical and aerial extravaganza, The Flying Germ Show, promises a delightfully funny and entertaining holiday experience at the Expo Xplore at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga, Durban from July 9.

Inspired by witty animated superheroes such as Shrek, The Incredibles and Monsters Inc, The Flying Germ Show is theatrical experience set in a fictitious land of DomestiCity and is an amusing whirlwind trip into the underbelly of the germ-world and good triumphing over evil.

The hilarious narrative tells of how flying acrobatic germs infiltrate the city from the toilet bowl, as the obsessive compulsive Princess Sodium, battles to maintain hygiene levels. Under the control of the evil Germaniac, the germs start to take over. The Princess and the handsome Dom, a Dream Man (who knows how to take out the rubbish!) are guided by the sage advice of Duke Hypochlorite and rid their city of the evil germs.

With live renditions of popular songs made famous by the likes of Bonnie Tyler, Queen, Frank Sinatra and Abba, The Flying Germ Show has been created as a live interactive theatrical experience by Ogilvy Action for Domestos Thick Bleach.

The show is written by Jaci de Villiers, who has received numerous accolades including New Female Playwrights Award for She Gau, and the “Search for New Plays” Writers Grant for, For Better for Wors.

Produced by Collyer-Lessick and Associates team whose name has become synonymous with theatrical spectacle, the show is directed by award-winning actress, Gina Shmukler and features singer and Isidingo star Emmanuel Castis as Dom, and Idols finalist Bianca Le Grange as Princess Sodium with virtual performances by renowned South African actor Craig Urbani as Duke Hypochlorite and comedian Alan Committie as Germaniac.

Emmanuel Castis, well-known for his roles in Isidingo and Erfsondes has also appeared in various stage productions and was voted the winner of Strictly Come Dancing in March, 2008. Bianca Le Grange of Idols fame is an accomplished musician, having studied both contemporary and classical music, and owns her own company, Besupreme Music.

Craig Urbani has featured in television shows such as Isidingo and Shado’s, as well as numerous stage productions, including the highly successful South African production of The Buddy Holly Story in which he played title role on London’s West End for ten years. One of South Africa’s leading comedians, Alan Committie is well-known for his comic one man shows, but is also a character comedian, stand-up comic, actor, director, writer and producer.

This musical and acrobatic extravaganza is choreographed by veteran Brendon Pollock, undefeated SA Latin American champion and former World Freestyle Dance Champion, with aerial routines performed by Madame Zingara’s Bryan Mynhardt. Musical direction is by one of the country’s most prolific musical theatre practitioners, Charl-Johan Lingenfelder, who has lent his expertise to various film projects as well as various stage productions, including Hairspray, Saturday Night Fever and most recently, High School Musical.

Dazzling costumes and flamboyant stage design by Collyer-Lessick complete the formula for a breathtaking production that promises to leave audiences spellbound and coming back for more.
