HAPPINESS THROUGH THE MIST

Schools season of mini musical to run at Catalina Theatre

Schools are invited to book for Imbumba Production’s delightful mini-musical, Happiness in the Mist, written and directed by Zeph Nzama. Starring Thabane Mahlobo, Scelo Ngobo and Muzi Mhlango, with Madala Kunene on guitar, it offers popular entertainment for theatregoers of all the communities who make up South African society, as it depicts the colourful life of Umkhumbani in the 1950s.

A compelling mixture of infectious music, wry humour and dialogue, Happiness in the Mist celebrates the extraordinary cultural heritage of Ethekwini’s historic Umkhumbane district, Durban’s equivalent of Johannesburg’s legendary Sophiatown and Cape Town’s former District Six. Evacuated and flattened during apartheid to become known as Cato Manor, Umkhumbane was the birthplace of many legendary South African artists. These people grew up in a community which today is remembered as much for its colourful and vibrant community life as for the harsh realities of poverty and material deprivation they endured.

Happiness in the Mist has performances for schools at 10h00 and 12h00 from August 18 to 23 at the Catalina Theatre, Wilson's Wharf. Tickets R30pp. Schools are advised to book early to avoid disappointment on 031 309 6889.
