Dr Vera Dubin has arranged tickets 25 music students for forthcoming milestone concert.
International operatic superstar Renée Fleming is headed for Durban within the next few weeks to perform with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra on a tour that will take in Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town. This collaboration marks the highest point in the KZNPO’s history, following the orchestra’s prestigious Euro tour which saw it performing at The Barbican in London and in Durban’s twin town Bremen, in Germany.
An American operatic singer and concert hall recitalist, Renée Fleming is the reigning prima donna at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and a major recording star with the giant Decca company.
A two-time Grammy winner, nine-time Grammy nominee and Polar Music Prize winner, she has also inspired a perfume, an iris and a dessert in her honour. She wears designer gowns by such illustrious names as Vivienne Westwood, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Lacroix, and Karl Lagerfeld and she has represented Rolex timepieces in print advertising for close on ten years.
Dr Vera Dubin, founder and chairman of the Friends of Music, has arranged for tickets for the Renée Fleming concert on August 27 in the Durban City Hall to be bought for 25 music students who would not be able to afford to pay themselves (the least expensive tickets are R150).
The tickets for the students were paid for with donations from Durban people. The donors include Peter Ditz; Hannah Evans; Mick Hyatt (who paid for ten tickets); the Friends of Music; Arnold Zulman; Michael Green; Justine Rapeport and Glenda Bernstein.
