THE BIRTH OF THE BLUES

The Durban International Blues Festival

Devised and directed by Themi Venturas, the revival of the hit music revue The Birth of the Blues staged in the heyday of The Cellar at the Playhouse combines the best of the old production plus some new material.

Under the vocal direction of Charon Williams Ross, the cast includes perennial favourite Sam Marais, newcomer Bandile Hlophe and velvety Tammy Saville who will share with Melanie Roberts. Musical director Melvin Peters leads what promises to be a fabulous Blues band.

The Birth of the Blues examines the origins of the blues and takes the audience on a roller coaster ride through the various offshoots that have been born out of the Blues. If you’re into interesting anecdotes and listening to a ‘hot’ band playing great music then this is the show for you!

The Birth of the Blues runs at the Catalina Theatre from September 29 to October 18.
