Greig Coetzee returns to KZN to present some of his award-winning work.
International playwriting mastermind, UK based Greig Coetzee, returns to South Africa to perform three of his one-handers at the Witness Hilton Arts Festival on September 18, 19, 20, and to do one Durban performance of his smash-hit army-themed play, White Men with Weapons at the Catalina Theatre on September 23.
Directed by Garth Anderson, written and performed by Greig Coetzee, White Men With Weapons won over 20 awards and has been critically acclaimed on five continents. Coetzee performs more than a dozen characters inspired by his own experiences as a conscript in the old SADF.
Currently based in London, Coetzee returns home for a nostalgic season of his fabulous, era-defining mono-dramas: Johnny Boskak is Feeling Funny, White Men with Weapons and The Blue Period of Milton van der Spuy – all of which he will perform once at Hilton. For Coetzee junkies, this “festival within a festival” of his watershed productions is an opportunity not to be missed.
For those not getting to Hilton, there will be one opportunity to catch White Men With Weapons at the Catalina Theatre in Wilson’s Wharf on September 23 at 20h00. Coetzee has donated this performance to the End Conscription Campaign which is celebrating 25 years since it was founded by hosting a series of events in Durban during late September and October.
