Acclaimed artist to present two sets at Rainbow Restaurant on Sunday.
Acclaimed artist Busi Mhlongo will perform at the Rainbow Restaurant and Jazz Club on October 4.
“Due to Busi's ongoing fight with cancer she will only be performing two sets as opposed to the Rainbow norm of three,” says Rainbow joint-owner Neil Comfort. “At Busi's request we have booked a group that goes under the name of The Zulu Rock Band to do the opening set. The leader of this group is Dan Mthalane, son of the late guitarist Doc Mthalane who was an integral part of the band Twasa, which Busi formed in the late 80's after her return to South Africa from artistic exile in Holland.
“As for Busi's performance, expect all the hits from Twasa's Babhemu album, her ground breaking 1998 release Urban Zulu, Freedom which was released on Hugh Masekela's now defunct label Chisa and, if we are lucky, a track or two from her latest album Amakholwa which will soon be hitting the shelves in South Africa.
Neil Comfort adds that he has ordered some copies of the hard to find Babhemu as well as a recent African Classics release from Sheer Sound which features the hits from Babhemu and Urban Zulu.
