UCT Fellowships open for application.
The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Gordon Institute for Performing & Creative Arts (GIPCA) is offering four Creative Arts Fellowships for 2010.
GIPCA is an innovative institution at UCT promoting new interdisciplinary creative research in the disciplines of Music, Dance, Fine Art, Drama, Film and Media, and Creative Writing, and in particular collaborations among disciplines. Interdisciplinary is a key theme of the institute, defined here as consisting of two or more disciplines, with at least one a participating GIPCA department at UCT. Projects should be created specifically for development in the institute.
Applications should be made by individuals who graduated after 2003 with Masters Degrees in any discipline in the performing and creative arts. Fellows will work in the relevant departments and be involved in the creative research life of university staff and students. Each year-long fellowship must culminate in a creative project of the fellow’s design. Four fellowships are available of R120,000 each, and some provision will be made for material expenses where necessary.
All applicants should submit a proposal, including details of their postgraduate degree, the project they wish to undertake, and the form in which they will realise it. The proposal must clearly indicate the interdisciplinary nature of the project. Three referees familiar with the applicant’s work should be asked to e-mail referee reports directly to fin-gipca@uct.ac.za before the due date.
For publicity purposes, please include: an abstract of the proposal (max. 250 words); a 1-2 page curriculum vitae including significant awards, publications, and/or showings, educational background, and artistic profile; and one high-resolution head-shot (min. 1 MB).
All projects must be completed and ready for public showing by 12 December 2010. All applications should be e-mailed to: fin-gipca@uct.ac.za (Ref: 2082) or delivered to GIPCA, Hiddingh Hall, University of Cape Town Hiddingh Campus, 31-37 Orange Street, Cape Town. Applications will be judged by a selection committee.
The deadline for applications is October 22 with the notification of results being release on November 15, 2009. The Fellowship starting date is February 2010.
