SINDERELLA HEADS FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON

Outrageous saucy adult panto ready to wow the festive season.

This year’s outrageous saucy adult panto – Sinderella… Comes Again! - opens at the Jubilee Supper Theatre (a brand new venue) at UKZN campus in Durban for a lengthy festive season run from November 10.

This year’s cast features Anthony Stonier whose name and glamour are synonymous with the adult panto. Stonier is performing for his 14th year - he has performed in every adult panto. Stonier is one of the Ugly Sisters, Thomie Holtzhausen is the other Ugly Sister and Junaid Cassimjee is the Prince. Holtzhausen and Cassimjee were both in the panto last year. The cast includes the unstoppable Rowan Bartlett as Buttons; and newcomers Rikki Hastings (as Sinders) and Daisy Spencer (as the Fairy Godmother).

The KZN tradition of adult panto began in 1996 in The Cellar with Sinderella, written by Patrick Hyland, which ran for close on six months.

“This year’s festive frolic sees a return of this all-time favourite. It is such a treat and eternal crowd-pleaser, that we couldn’t resist staging it again,” says producer Sue Clarence. “Once more it is a naughty but nice take on a classic tale! Forget the economic woes of the world. Put reality aside and come and laugh at this song-filled piece of froth and fun. There is huge talent; zero intellectual content; magnificent costumes and fab music!”

The new comfortable air-conditioned Durban venue offers ample safe parking and easy access. All booking is through Computicket. There are low price performances on all Tuesdays and Saturdays (18h30 for 20h00) with matinees on Sunday at 12h30 for 14h00.

The venue will be set with tables seating eight patrons per table. Patrons may bring their own meal. If you book a whole table or more, it is possible to pre-book a custom-made gourmet picnic through Ailsa Windsor from Going Places. Prices range from R120 a head upwards. There is a full bar – patrons who bring their own will be subject to corkage. Enquiries such as block bookings and picnic orders through Ailsa on 083 250 2690 or 031 309 1841.

On December 10, there is a special one-off Ladies Night performance hosted by Damon Beard and his Ladies Night entertainers. Tickets (for the combined package of both shows) costs R150 for both shows.

Sinderella … Comes Again runs from November 10 over the festive season.

Directions: The venue is situated at the UKZN’s Opera School and Choral Academy in Lamont Road which runs parallel to and below the main campus. Travelling along Ridge Road and passing the main gates of the university on your left, you are now in Lamont Road – continue past the student res blocks on your left. As you round the corner and see the overhead pedestrian bridge, there is a slip road to your left which takes you through the boom gate down to the parking area. Then walk back up the hill, through the boom gate and follow the signs to the venue. Or visit http://www.pubmat.co.za/jubilee hall map.htm for a map.
