NO NAME SEXTET

Rainbow restaurant to offer serious afro-jazz with strong Mozambican influence.

On December 6, the Rainbow Restaurant and Jazz Club in Pinetown will host the group No Name Sextet.

“All right, I just made up the name because the band leader could not come up with one,” says Rainbow co-owner Neil Comfort. “What I do know is that they can play some serious afro-jazz licks with, again, a strong Mozambican influence coming through on some of the numbers courtesy of guitarist Zoco Dimande.

Dimande, along with pianist Sue Barry has been a regular member of Busi Mhlongo's band for many a year. Drummer Karrim Darries was also with Mhlongo at her recent appearance on the Rainbow stage in October. On bass is another Rainbow favourite in the healthy form of Philani Ngidi. On trumpet is Zimbabwean Tabane Gapara and handling vocals will be Lihle Ngongoma.

No Name Sextet will perform on December 6. Doors open at 12hoo with the first set at approximately 13h30. Tickets R40 presale (R50 at the door).

The Rainbow Restaurant Estd 1981 is situated at 23 Stanfield Lane, Pinetown. More information on 031 702 9161 or 083 463 8044 or email: bandwagon@artslink.co.za or visit www.therainbow.co.za
