OLD MUTUAL CAROLS AT THE LAKE

Durban Botanic Gardens present Carols by Candlelight at the Lake on December 14.

The Durban Botanic Gardens ends its 160th Anniversary year in fine style with the Old Mutual Carols by Candlelight Concert at the Lake on December 14.

Lykele Temmingh, Resident Conductor of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, has chosen a wonderful selection of music to celebrate the festive season. The award-winning Clermont Community Choir will give another outstanding performance to Durban audiences, having just returned from the national choir festival championships where they are defending their title. Guest soloist Shelley McLean will perform with the KZNPO and singing items with a strong emphasis on celebrating Christmas with the children. Another highlight in the programme is a performance by young music maestro, eight year-old Roxanne van Oudtshoorn, who will perform a violin solo.

Shelley – who is currently appearing as Mrs Darling in KickstArt’s Peter Pan - has a great rapport with children and will be looking for lots of audience participation as she encourages them to sing with her at this concert. She has chosen to sing the hauntingly beautiful lullaby from Peter Pan as well as the song Hallelujah from Shrek, accompanied by Evan Roberts.

This bumper Carols by Candlelight concert takes place at 18h00 on December 14 and will also include two surprise performances from the show My Fair Lady currently running at The Playhouse. Father Christmas will make a quick stopover to meet children before the concert begins between 17h15 and 17h45.
