VELOBALA ARTWORKS
(The Velobala Group Class5)
Exhibition of artwork by the Velobala Group and a new range of summer jewellery for African Art Centre
The African Art Centre is showcasing an exhibition of artworks by the Velobala Group and a new range of beaded and telephone wire summer jewellery designed by Hlengiwe Dube, Nozipho Zulu, Carmi Course and Liz Mitchell.
The Velobala Group is an African Art Centre Development Project which has been running consecutively since 1994. The project allows young people to explore different fine art mediums of drawing, painting, printmaking, mosaics and jewellery making and introduces participants to the world of art making. At the end of each year, an exhibition of artworks by students who were motivated and hardworking throughout the year is mounted at the African Art Centre.
To compliment the exhibition, a new range of innovative beaded and telephone wire jewellery will be on view. The range of jewellery has been specially created by selected highly skilled crafters who have been attending Development Workshops presented by the African Art Centre throughout the year. The workshops aim at developing new skills and techniques, product development and encourage the production of works of originality and of the highest quality. The designs are based on traditional Zulu beadwork which has been transformed into current fashion jewellery.
The exhibition opens on December 9 at 17h30 and runs for several weeks at the African Art Centre, 94 Florida Road, Durban. More information on 031 312 3804.
