YESTERDAY ONCE MORE

(Marion Loudon, Barry Thomson and Melanie Roberts)

Heritage Theatre kicks off 2010 with musical tribute to the Carpenters.

The Heritage Theatre kicks off the New Year with a musical tribute to the Carpenters, the brother and sister duo which represented the biggest selling group of the 70s.

The show features Heritage favourite Marion Loudon and the inimitable Melanie Roberts, back on stage for the first time since her return from Dubai. They are ably backed by Dawn Selby (musical director), Barry Thomson on guitar and vocals, Glen Turrell on bass and Andy Turrell on drums, pedal steel and anything else he can get his hands on.

The show is a purely musical and takes a deconstructed look into the works of Richard and Karen Carpenter, known to the world as simply “Carpenters”. No fewer than ten of their singles went on to become million-sellers and by 2005 combined worldwide sales of albums and singles well exceeded 100 million units.

“Yet the Carpenters were much more than creators of beautifully crafted and hugely successful hit records,” says show producer Gary McKenzie. “Within the space of just a few years their unique and inimitable sound had brought a new dimension to the world of popular music.”

The song list includes Close To You, I Won’t Last A Day Without You, Top Of The World, Only Yesterday, Rainy Days And Mondays and We’ve Only Just Begun, as well as their famous re-arrangements of other artists’ music such as Ticket To Ride, Please Mr Postman, Solitaire, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again and many more.

Yesterday Once More runs from January 12 to 24. Tickets R190 Wednesday to Saturday at 19h00 (R165 Tuesday at 19h00 and Sunday at 12h30) include a delicious two-course meal. There are three promotional “low price previews” on January 12, 13 and 14 when the two-course meal and show will be R150. For more information or to book call 031 765 4197 or www.heritagetheatre.co.za
