Musa Hlatshwayo’s award-winning choreopoem to have short run in Square Space Theatre.
Presented by Mhayise Productions, Moses is an award-winning multimedia installation choreopoem performed by a cast of five. It addresses political identity post-Thabo Mbheki’s ‘I am an African’ in a beautifully crafted journey of physical theatre and contemporary dance framed by Val Adamson’s astounding images, Lebo Mashile’s The Ancient Ones, the lyrical sounds of Mama Makeba and Ingrid Jonker’s heart hitting; The Child Who Was Shot Dead by the Soldiers in Nyanga.
Awarded KZN Dancelink’s Best Choreography 2009 together with Giyani Lusha 2009 and Amens!, all of which were Hlatshwayo’s creations for 2009, Moses was heralded as “…a powerful moving work, beautifully lit and staged…” (Caroline Smart, artsmart.co.za) and “(It)…illuminates…an interesting confluence of open and confined…” (Gisele Turner, Daily News)
Moses runs in the Square Space Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College campus) from February 24 to 27 at 19h00 and the duration is approximately 65 minutes. Bookings and more information from Claudette Wagner on 031 260 3133 or email: Wagnerc1@ukzn.ac.za
