Anthology of poetry to be dedicated to the victims of Haiti.
The news of the devastating earthquake in Haiti made international headlines and among the people engaged in fundraising is Ravi Naicker who is passionate about urging fellow poets to contribute towards the rebuilding of Haiti.
“This act of God has left this poor nation devastated and a country in dire need of re-building,” he says. “Over two hundred thousand people were lost to the earthquake and many more buried under the rubble; by a quirk of fate some were rescued by the kindly volunteers while others could not be reached and left for dead.”
He discussed with Dr Amitabh Mitra, the present editor of A Hudson View (Poetry Digest) and former chairperson of The Thomas Pringle Literary Committee of South Africa, the prospect of publishing an anthology which will be dedicated to the victims of Haiti.
“We agreed to publish about 60 to 70 poems from poets in South Africa and abroad,” Ravi Naicker continues. “Each poet would be permitted to submit one or two poems and the cost of printing would be borne by Dr Mitra. The poets will have to purchase the anthology and a copy of the same sent to the High Commissioner of Haiti. This anthology would be dedicated to the victims and the people of Haiti.”
All interested persons should submit their poems to Dr Mitra (mitracellnet@xsinet.co.za) or Ravi Naicker (ravisnaicker@gmail.com). If all goes well, the anthology should be printed by the end of April.
