Friends of Music to host acclaimed cello/piano duo on May 11.
Friends of Music is to host a recital by the acclaimed duo, cellist Grigory Alumyan from Moscow and pianist Rinko Hama from Japan.
These musicians have been in a collaborative partnership which has been extremely successful for the past nine years. Grigory won the 1st prize at Unisa International String Competition (SA) and Rinko Hama won 1st prize at the Piano Competition in Israel. They were awarded first prizes at the Swedish International Competion in 2002 and in 2004, received the gold medal at the Duo Competition in Baden, Germany.
The programme will include Beethoven’s Sonata No 3 in A Major, Opus 69; da Falla’s Suite Populaire Espanole; Schumann’s Adagio Und Allegro, Opus 70, and Grieg’s Sonata for Violoncello and piano in A Minor, Opus 36.
The Prelude Player for the evening, a ten minute ”curtain-raiser” sponsored by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund will be singer Lize Bothma with works by Scarlatti, Wolf and Gershwin.
The recital takes place on May 11 at 19h45 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort Road, Durban where there is safe parking). Tickets R70 (R60 FOM members and R20 students/orchestral members) booked through Computicket booking.
