KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic opens its Winter Season.
The KZN Philharmonic’s Winter Season kicks off this Thursday (May 13), just a month before the Fifa World Cup and provides an ideal warm-up for this global event: like the stadia of the World Cup, our City Hall stage will host international visitors, as well as local stars.
This orchestral “opening match”, as it were sees Beethoven vs. Wagner. Conductor Joseph Wolfe on the podium brings his experience with prominent orchestras such as the London Philharmonic and the English Chamber Orchestra . One of Europe’s foremost pianists, Katya Apekisheva will be the soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, the other Beethoven work being the Symphony No. 4. Wagner is represented in his Die Meistersinger: Prelude.
The concert takes place at 19h30 in the Durban City Hall, doors open at 18:30. Those wishing to purchase tickets at the door, should arrive early to avoid delays and queues at Computicket.
Friends of Music, in association with the KZN Philharmonic, will host a pre-concert talk by Cecile Levin at The Royal Hotel before the concert, starting at 18h15 and ending by 19h00 in time to walk across the road for the concert. Tickets for the talk are R30 and include light refreshments.
Safe and subsidised parking is available at The Royal Parkade. Some 30 additional security personnel are positioned in and around the City Hall, Royal and Albany hotels to escort patrons to and from the vehicles.
