The Maritzburg Musicians Club will host the popular Pan Latino on May 4, performing their eclectic mix of Latin and African music.
Lovers of Latin and African rhythm will be invigorated and energized by the sounds of Pan Latino. The band was formed in 2007 by Bolivian-born Kéch Sánchez (vocals, charango, guitar and pan pipes) who has lived and performed in South America, Europe and South Africa. The other musicians are John Bossé (bass), Daniël Rossouw (lead guitar) and Chris Melling (percussion), all from the Midlands town of Howick. Their music is a result of old and new generations laying down their touch of different influences and styles, mixing them into the band’s distinctive and different pot of jamming with a strong Latin influence.
Pan Latino is supported by Peter Tennant and Chris Middleton. Peter Tennant, recently retired Associate Professor of Classics on the local UKZN campus, has maintained a keen interest in the classical guitar since leaving school and is particularly interested in the Spanish and South American repertoires. He will be playing a selection of pieces from these countries. Peter is also a keen runner and will be completing (hopefully) his twelfth Comrades marathon this year. Chris Middleton styles himself as “rockabilly blues with attitude, PMB born musician that rocks the house”.
The music starts at 20h00 on May 4 at The Red Door and entrance is R20. The Red Door is in Quarry Road, off Victoria Road, in Pietermaritzburg. Travelling from the City centre, go all the way down to Victoria Road, turn left and go through three robots (last one being West Street). Drive on till you see Builders Suppliers on right. Turn down first little street right - before you get to Hirsch’s. Red Door is on the right. Car guards on duty. More information from Roger O’Neill on 083 230 6562
