AUDITION FOR KICKSTART PANTOMIME

Audition for Robin Hood & the Babes in the Wood on June 12.

Durban’s top theatre company, KickstArt, is looking for talented children to play the ‘Babes’ in their spectacular Festive Season family pantomime, Robin Hood, and the Babes in the Wood.

KickstArt will be holding auditions on June 12, at 2pm at Penzance Primary School for likely candidates.

“We are looking for two boys and two girls from any race group, aged between 8-12 years who can act, sing, and dance and who are dedicated, hard workers. The pantomime requires a brother and sister team of Babes, Ned and Kate, and we are going to double-cast the production to take the load off the kids, so they only need do four performances each per week,” says director Steven Stead.

Interested children should arrive at 14h00 and put their names on a list at the door. All applicants should bring a song (with sheet music or backing track) and a poem or monologue (memorised, and not longer than two minutes). They will also be asked to dance, so they should please wear trainers or dance shoes, no slops, sandals or high heels! The audition will go on until 17h00.

Rehearsals will take place between November 9 and December 6, working every day from Mondays to Friday 14h00 to 21h00 and on Saturdays 10h00 to 17h00. Performances will begin at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on December 7 and continue until January 9. (No performances Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.) Please also note that while travel expenses will be covered there will be no remuneration for appearing in the production.

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood will be directed by Steven Stead, designed by Greg King with lighting design by Tina le Roux. It stars Lyle Buxton; Darren King; Londiwe Dhlomo; Peter Court; Bryan Hiles; Michael Gritten; Liesl Coppin and Farai Gwaze. This delightful journey through the enchanted forests and castles of Medieval England guarantees to thrill and delight audiences of all ages with dragons, forest creatures, transformations, battles and dances, and the fun of familiar songs and witty jokes.

Booking is now open at Computicket.
