Friends of Music’s next recital on June 29 features the acclaimed South African-based duo of Polina Burdukova (cello) and Kerry Wisniewski (piano), performing a programme ranging from Baroque to contemporary classical music.

The critically lauded duo have been major league award nominees and winners on several occasions since they teamed up professionally five years ago, and their upcoming Durban appearance is eagerly awaited. Their programme includes music by Couperin, Popper, Schumann, Rossini, and two South African composers, Jean Zail-Rudolph and Alan Stevenson.

The duo’s recital will be preceded by the evening’s prelude performer, 16-year-old Keziah Peel. A music scholarship pupil at Durban Girls College, versatile Keziah is principal cellist in the KZN Youth Orchestra, and also a member of the KZN Wind Band where she plays saxophone and mallet percussion. At the 2009 Ethekwini Eisteddfod, she was awarded Most Outstanding Wind Player, Wind Player of the Year, and also won the Trinity College Award for Best Overall Performer.

Friends of Music recitals are held at the Durban Jewish Centre at 44 KE Masinga Road (formerly Old Fort Road) and begin at 19h45. Tickets R70 (R60 non-members) available through Computicket on 083 915 8000, or at the door. Safe parking is available at the venue.
