DUNCAN EBEDES SCHOOL

School of Contemporary Music in Hillcrest.

The Duncan Ebedes School of Contemporary Music in Hillcrest, Kwa-Zulu Natal, provides quality music training and artist development for students of all skill levels and age groups.

Now a year old, the school opened in May last year when the owner and founder, Duncan Ebedes returned from a year spent in London where he had been promoting his second album Perseverance of the Saints produced by two of Durban’s finest; Dave Birch and Brent Quinton.

The 28 year old singer / songwriter began his professional career in 2002 and has worked under Benjy Mudies and other South African music giants including SAMA winners Nianell, Blk Sonshine and SAMA nominee Cofield Mundi. He decided that it was time Durban had a place where young musicians could develop their talents, refine their skills, and grow into well-rounded artists.

The Duncan Ebedes School of Contemporary Music is unique in that it offers not only training in various instruments, but full artist development and growth. When Duncan returned from London he was the only teacher in his school and he had to sell a guitar to pay the first month’s rent. The School has grown to more than three times its size. With 140 pupils, 12 teachers, 10 teaching studios, and a fully-equipped recording studio; the school offers its pupils training in every aspect of the music world.

The school also hosts its very own music festival; Platform which, unlike other student showcases, is unique in that it gives pupils the opportunity to perform in a festival-like atmosphere where they are able to showcase their talents and hard work.
