Elizabeth Gordon Gallery hosting works of artist from the Sudan.

To celebrate the Soccer World Cup 2010 being held on the continent of Africa for the first time, Elizabeth Gordon Gallery is highlighting the works of Hussein Salim, an artist from the Sudan. Hussein left his home country as a refugee and has recently completed his Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, in Pietermaritzburg, where he now lives.

“Hussein’s richly-textured canvases employ an extravagant layering technique to create a dense impasto feel. His paintings are a dialogue between different cultures and represent his strong feelings that art must be used as a tool to help initiate this dialogue. His works awaken an appreciation of our differences and diverse reactions and then somehow manages to bring us back to the shared foundation of mankind,” says a gallery representative.
