Maritzburg Musicians Club host Gloucester Blues Project.
On August 10, the Maritzburg Musicians Club will host The Gloucester Blues Project who will be appearing live for the first time since one of their members was forced to take an extended break after an accident. This is a good opportunity to hear one of Pietermaritzburg’s premier bands offer their special infectious brand of blues/rock presented with energy and commitment.
The Gloucester Blues project is a blend of very different personalities and musical styles. John Goodall, prolific songwriter and old-style blues afficionado is on rhythm guitar and vocals. Robyn Tompkins, back singing after an eight-year absence from the microphone (ex-Blue Label and occasional appearances with Highway Jam) and who joined the band in January 2008, fronts the band on vocals. Brothers, Ian and Andrew Dickinson, both from a hard rock background, are on drums and lead guitar. Talented young bassist Kyle Baker completes the line-up.
Gloucester Blues plays regularly around Durban and Pietermaritzburg, having both headlined gigs as well as opened shows for the likes of Southern Gypsey Queen and Dan Patlansky.
In addition to Gloucester Blues, there’s the guest appearance of Syd Snyders, the original bass player for the Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters now on tour in KZN.
The performance will take place at Red Door on August 10 at 20h00. Entrance R20. The Red Door is in Quarry Rd, off Victoria Road, in Pietermaritzburg. Go all the way down to Victoria Road, turn left and go through three robots (last one being West St). Drive on till you see Builders Suppliers on right. Turn down first little street right - before you get to Hirsch’s. Red Door is on the right. Car guards on duty. More information from Roger O’Neill on 083 230 6562.
