Satchu Annamalai’s recent hit turns into a roadshow.
If Dr Satchu Annamalai’s recent hit, Goolgoola Jive is anything to go by, then the Roadshow, which previews in his hometown, Merebank, on August 22 is certainly a must see. Roping in high flying celebrities such as the former Miss India SA, KZN, Derosha Moodley, Pauline Dalais of Lotus FM’s hit drama, Lollipop Lane and the much sought after DJ Ree, the show promises to be a humdinger.
The Roadshow, billed as The Goolgoola Jive Roadshow and described as a Skit & Music Comedy, is a combination which seems to be working well with Durban audiences. An excerpt of the show recently performed at Sibiya was overwhelmingly given the thumbs up. This has also generated much enthusiasm amongst the cast as it gears up for its countrywide tour.
Annamalai’s performances are generally well received, but this time he insists that the roadshow is not anything like audiences have seen. ‘We have taken tracks from my first album and my second which I am working on at the moment, and worked in a drama element which is both relevant and funny. I am confident audiences are going to love this show’, he patiently explains with his traditional one-dimpled smile.
Derosha Moodley is a masters student at UKZN and also a Bharata Natyam graduate. In the show she plays many roles as dancer and singer while simultaneously playing both male and female characters. Her love for acting and her skills as a performer is well documented. Although still in her early twenties, Miss Moodley has performed in many lead roles in The University’s Shakespearean productions. She is also fondly remembered for her sterling performances in the television productions, Broken Promises and Run for your Life.
The Goolgoola Jive Roadshow kicks off on August 22 and will continue late into December, covering most big towns in the country. Durban audiences may catch the first phase of the show in the following areas; Merebank on August 22; Mt Edgecombe on August 28; Stanger on September 3 and Umzinto on September 12.
