IDOLS 6

Durban turns up the heat!

KwaZulu-Natal was clearly buoyed by Durban’s success in Idols 5 last year, when Lizé, Lendel, Pixie, and of course Jason Hartman steamrollered through to the Top 10. This year KZN seemed intent on repeating that success when record crowds queued in the heat outside the 1 On 1 Conference Centre at The Gateway Theatre Of Shopping in Umhlanga.

The celebrity guest judge joining Idols’s Terrible Trio, Mara, Randall and Gareth, in Durban was a true South African icon, Steve Hofmeyr, who promised to be brutally honest with the contestants.

In total the judges handed out 20 Golden Tickets in Durban this year and the following talented young musicians will be seen in the next round of the competition. From Durban are Bongiwe Silinda (19); Levi Pillay (22); Marcia Buwa (19); Nomkhosi Shezi (21); Riziki Tresor (23), and Silindile Zungu (22). From Glenwood are Sindisiwe Nene (21) and Zintle Mkwela (24) alongside Chloe Clark (21) and Kyle Mitchell (22) from Durban North. From Westville are Daniel Wessels (20) and Peter Grobler (19).

Added to these are Hlengiwe Thusini (26) from Clermont; Jess Yallup (22) from Umhlanga; Lloyd Cele (28) from Brookdale; Peter Oliver (19) from Polokwane; Phillip du Plessis (21) from Vryheid; Prime Zulu (21) from KwaMashu; Shylo van Heyzen (29) from Hillcrest, and Tracey Duvall (22) from Red Hill.
